In 1997 Cornelia Tomes, a Rogue Valley Manor resident, made a generous donation to the Rogue Valley Manor Foundation. It was her hope to assist young women, from financially hard-pressed families, with an interest in pursuing their education. A Ph.D. graduate herself, Cornelia was aware of the rate of teen pregnancy and drug use among teenagers. Her vision was to offer young women an opportunity for a life full of choices.

That first year, 12 young women from Jackson County were awarded scholarships. To date, in 2005, the fund has raised more than $257,000 and has enabled 105 high school graduates to pursue course work in community colleges and universities in the State of Oregon.

"Without the Fairy Godmother program, I would not be able to enjoy the education I am receiving. I am very grateful."
Jaime – SOU Student

One hundred percent of the funds raised by the Fairy Godmother Program comes from within the community and one hundred percent is awarded in the form of scholarships to local high school female graduates, some of whom come from the most desperate circumstances.

Scholarships are given for one year and are renewable for a second year if the student fulfills her commitments.
